Why this matters

When someone asks an AI assistant "where's a good plumber near me?", it recommends businesses it can describe. If your page only has 50 words, AI can't describe you — so it describes a competitor whose page actually says what they do. You don't need an essay; you need enough words for AI to know who you are.

The target

Aim for at least 300 words of real, readable text on your homepage — what you do, who you serve, where you are, and what makes you different. Write like you'd explain your business to a neighbor, not like a brochure.

Do it yourself

This one is all you — nobody knows your business better. Add a text section to your homepage on any platform:

  1. Open your editor

Wix: Edit Site. Squarespace: Edit. WordPress: Pages → All Pages → Edit. Shopify: Online Store → Themes → Customize.

  2. Add a text block

Add a new text section below your main headline — every platform has an "add text" or "add section" option.

  3. Write three short paragraphs

Paragraph 1 — what you do: "We're a family-run plumbing company serving the North Hills of Pittsburgh since 2009."

Paragraph 2 — who it's for and what's different: "We handle everything from emergency repairs to full bathroom remodels, and we answer our own phones — no call centers."

Paragraph 3 — where and how to reach you: "Based in Ross Township, we serve homes and businesses across Allegheny County. Call (412) 555-0134 for same-day service."

  4. Use your real words

Say your services by name ("drain cleaning", "bridal hair", "wood-fired pizza") — those are the exact words customers ask AI about. Don't stuff keywords; just describe your work naturally.

  5. Publish

    Save or publish the page.

What not to do

Don't copy text from another website, and don't hide text in tiny fonts or matching background colors — AI and Google both treat that as a trick, and it backfires. Write your own words, visibly, like a human talking to a customer.

After publishing

Run a new CrawlReady scan. The content check counts your words fresh each time — once there's enough real text, the flag clears.
